A New Year

Posted by: | January 12, 2013 | 16 Comments |

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year for 2013.   So far I have really enjoyed 2013 for a number of reasons.   For example I have enjoyed my long summer school holidays.  Also I have been away with Pete the cat traveling to New South Wales where the weather was extremely hot but that didn’t stop us from having an awesome time for we sat around the pool where I found the pool kept us cool during those long hot days. Pete the cat is a cat that my dear blogging pal Mrs Hembree sent to me from the USA he is visiting and some time in the future will return home to Mrs Hembree hopefully.

While I have been on holidays I went to the movies and watched the movie called Wreck it Ralph.  This movie is a rather funny movie and I would recommend it for young and old which I do feel you would all enjoy.   I would also recommend if you do get the chance to see this movie watch it in 3D because it somehow brings this movie to life right in front of your eyes.

I also have been reading many books.   I was very lucky to receive a One Direction book from my wonderful blogging pal Mrs Hembree.  This is a wonderful read which tells  you all about the boy band One Direction.   Other books that I have read during these school holidays are “A Series of Unfortunate Events”  by Lemony Snicket.   I have read one, two and three and this moment I am reading number four.

I have also been spending time with my Nanna and Poppie on their farm.   I have enjoyed walking around the farm with my Nanna discovering what’s growing in her garden. I still have 2 weeks till school begins. I am looking forward to school as I will be in Grade 5. Hopefully learning new facts as I begin my new year at school.

What are you looking forward to in 2013?

    Hi Bianca!
Sounds like you have had a great summer and will be rested and ready for the start of Year 5. I am a teacher from Melbourne and this will be my first year of teaching 5/6. I am really excited and looking forward to it. I have had 3/4 for the last 3 years so it will be great to see what comes after 3/4 for my students!
Keep blogging and sharing your learning!

    Dear Bianca,

I was so happy to see that you are going to continue to blog in 2013! Yeah!

You mentioned that your summer holiday is almost over and you only have two weeks until school resumes. Your holiday seems to have flown by! However, after reading your post, I can see you have been very busy!

I had two weeks off for winter break. Most of my days were spent with my family and with Buck. My sister and her husband and two girls drove down from San Francisco for Christmas. If was great to spend time with one another and sing Christmas songs as my mom accompanied everyone on the piano.

Being with our one year old labrador, Buck, was another highlight. We took him on long walks and played ball in the backyard. He even got an antler from his Montana canine cousin! Check out the photo of the day and you can see Buck with his Christmas antler.

Who will be your fifth grade teacher this year? What will you be studying?

    Your California friend,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

I am glad that you are glad I am continuing my blog in 2013. My school holidays sure have flown. I sure have been busy :) . That is nice you got to spend time with your family and friends. It sure would have been nice to see your sister and her husband. Your mum must been an awesome piano player. Buck must have had the best first Christmas ever . That is funny Buck got antlers as a Christmas present he must have looked very cute in them. Buck looks so cute in the Christmas antlers. My 5th grade teacher is Mrs. Mcalugh she is Irish. We will be studying the Old times in Victoria etc Gold Rush in Ballarat, Solar System and more.

    Dear BB,
I am so excited to see you blogging in 2013! It sounds like you have had a fabulous start to the new year!

I loved seeing the photos of Pete the Cat enjoying himself in Australia! He is such a character and you are obviously taking great care of him.

It sounds like the One Direction book is giving you some fun reading moments! I remember when I was your age I belonged to the fan group of a music group. I tried to read everything I could get my hands on about the members.

While you have been sweltering in the summer heat, I have been visiting the ski slopes and shivering on the snow! Quite the opposite activities. Still we love snow sports at our house and look forward to all opportunities to get outside and ski down mountainsides!

Today we watched a very important American football game. Our local team the Seattle Seahawks played against another team in a very important playoff game.
They got ahead in the last 30 seconds of the game. It was so exciting! Then in the last 5 seconds of the game, the other team scored and we lost. We were quite sad.
You would love my fingernails however! My daughter and I had our nails painted in our team colors! Would you do something silly like that for your favorite team?

Enjoy the last of your holidays!
    From your WA friend,
    Mrs. Hembree

Awesome comment and thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. I am so glad that you are glad I am blogging in 2013 again. I sure have had a fabulous start to the new year. Pete sure is enjoying himself but missing you. Pete is so funny I also sing him weird songs which he enjoys. I’m sure am taking great care of Pete. The One Direction book is the best I just love it. Many people do try to read heaps about that certain band. Today I just went in my pool it was so nice to have a dip in there :) . I would love to go to the snow one day. I like the football team name the Seattle Seahawks. That is awesome the Seattle Seahawks were ahead for 30 seconds. That is sad your team lost  . I sure would paint my finger nails the same colour as my favourite football team.

    Dear BB,

Happy New Year to you too! It was so nice to see a new blog post from you. I have been waiting to hear about how your summer holiday is going.

Your warm weather looks so nice. We have had a couple of really cold nights in Southern California. As we were driving this evening, our thermometer showed the temperature at -1 C, which is very unusual for us. We had to bundle up in warm coats, hats and gloves when we went out this evening.

Miriam and Sarah just finished their winter break and now are back in school. They did some of the same things you did, reading and watching movies. However instead of sitting by the pool, we went ice skating a few times.

    Good luck in grade 5.

    Best,
    Victoria

      @ Victoria,

Happy New Year! thank you for your lovely comment it’s always so nice to hear from you :)

We have had some really, really hot days so hot that it felt like when you walked outside that a fire was heating up your face.
It’s really feels so strange to read your comment where you wrote your temperature was 1-C, now that is cold. Good to read that you kept warm wearing your hats, gloves and coats to keep warm.
I love going ice skating as I have been a few times last year.

I might surprise mum and take her ice skating for her birthday which is coming up soon.
Thanks for your warms wishes for grade five.

Best wishes to you to Victoria.

      From your friend Bianca :)

    Hi BB

Happy New Year to you too! I hope your Grade Five year is going to be fabulous!

Where in New South Wales did you go to visit? I was born in New South Wales in a little country town town called Guyra and my family moved to Melbourne when I was in Grade 3.

We have certainly had some hot weather haven’t we! It’s great that you and Pete can keep cool by the pool! My poor tomatoes are getting very burnt with the hot sun. I haven’t been away these holidays, but I have been busy planning a trip overseas at the end of term one!

You’re doing a great job reading your way through the Series of Unfortunate events. What do you like about this series? I’ve just read Jacqueline Harvey’s latest book called “Clementine Rose and the Pet Day Disaster”. I loved it and think Clementine Rose will be as popular as Alice-Miranda.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your holidays BB…

    Miss Y :)

      @ Miss Y,
Awesome comment and thank you for leaving a comment on my blog.

Happy New Year to you Miss Y. Thank you for hoping my Grade 5 year is going to be fabulous. I also hope you have a fabulous year too. I visited Albury in New South Wales. That is nice you were born in Guyra. I have not heard or visited that place before sounds a nice place to visit. I must have been sad moving to Melbourne because you would miss your friends. I agree we sure have had some very hot weather. Today I just went in the pool it was a bit cold but I survived. That is sad your tomatoes are getting burnt with the hot sun. Where are you going overseas? Thank you for saying I have done a great job reading through the Series of Unfortunate events. I like best about the series is that the writer explains what is happening like he does examples of what is happening in each chapter. That is awesome you read Clementine Rose and the Pet Day Disaster. I am so glad you loved reading Clementine Rose. I will look out for the book Clementine Rose. I agree Clementine Rose sure will be as popular as Alice Miranda.

I hope you enjoy your holidays too Miss Y,

      BB.

    Hi BB

I’m sure you will be in your pool tomorrow with our next HOT day of 39 degrees! Have a swim for me!

I hope to travel to some places in Eastern Europe including Krakow in Poland, Prague in the Czech Republic (like Mrs Hembree) along the coastline of Croatia and a few days in Dubai on the way home. You can see the countries on this map http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~pv/courses/centeur/map.html

Where in the world would you like to travel to BB? (I’m sure Seattle, Washington would be on your list!)

    Stay cool!

    Miss Y :)

As for 2013, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my daughter outside once the weather gets nicer.
