Role Models

Posted by: | February 11, 2013 | 36 Comments |

Recently I watched a movie called Soul Surfer. The movie is about a girl named Bethany Hamilton who gets her left arm bitten off by a Tiger Shark.  I found this movie sad at times such for when  Bethany almost dies from her attack by the shark but it in the end I found it very inspiring how she won the Hawaiian  Nationals in surfing with only one arm. At the end of the movie I feel  Bethany is a great example of a great role model. To be a great role model requires passion, courage resilience and determination to never give up which Bethany had.

Bethany has shown me everything is possible if you try and never to give up and to believe in yourself.

Who is your role model?

What makes your role model so special?

    Dear BB,

Isn’t that movie great? I have seen it too and was amazed by Bethany’s bravery.

I don’t know that I have one special role model. I admire anyone who tries their best and keeps going when times are tough.

Perhaps we are all role models for each other at different stages in our lives.

It sure is a great movie. Bethany is so brave to keep surfing.

That is sad you don’t have a role model but you will find someone.

Mrs Hembree you also are my role model :D.

    Hi BB

We have a copy of “Soul Surfer” in our Senior Fiction section. I try to buy books with role models that will inspire our students. If you get a chance you should read the book too!

I think we have different role models at different stages of our lives. I admire people who are passionate, don’t give up when things get tough, are are thoughtful of others and they seek to make a positive difference in the world.

As a senior student in the school now, you are a role model for younger students…

    Miss Y :)

I told mum about the Bethany Hamilton books I would really like some.

We sure do have different role models at different stages. That is good you admire people who are passionate.

Thank you for saying I am a role model for younger students. Us Grade 5′s now have buddies.

    Dear BB,

I loved your post. I also saw Soul Surfer, and I thought it was an inspiration to many people. I thought that she was brave to keep surfing even after she got bitten by the tiger shark.

I don’t really have a role model, but I try to be one to the little kids at school and at home.

    Sincerely,
    Miriam

    Dear BB,

I really like your post. I feel sad for about Bethany because I think it really hurt her. How do you feel about Bethany? She was brave and did not cry. I thought she was going to cry. Did you think she was going to cry? The tiger shark could have eaten her whole body I have broken my left arm only once have you ever broken your left arm at school?

I am glad that you like my post. Bethany was so brave for not crying when the shark attacked her but I think she did not cry was because she was in shock.

I have never broke my arm before. I have not broken any bone in my body.

    Hey BB,
I am also a fan over the soul surfer movie. At the end of your post you asked who my role model is and why they are so special to me. My role model is my mom. My mom is a nurse and a first responder. She saves people lives everyday and that inspires me. I have seen my moms work and it encourges me to be a first responder when I am older. Who is your role model? I like how you explained what the movie was about and how it inspired you. Nice Job.

BB, Thank you for sharing this inspirational video. You are quite correct about the importance of having a role model. My role model didn’t come into my life until later in life and she showed me that I was intelligent and should go to college! She continues to be an inspiration to this day! I am an occupational therapist in Massachusetts, USA, and I will share your awesome blog with my students. They may be inspired to blog, as well!

My role model was my supervisor at a job I had with the Federal Government in Hawaii while my husband was stationed there. She encouraged me to go back to college and gave me a wonderful letter that helped me to get a promotion! She continues to be my friend and I credit her (and my other supervisor at the time) for getting me to get my degree! And THAT’s how I became a therapist!

    Dear BB,

I have not seen the movie, but now I will rent it and watch it. She sounds like a tremendous girl who overcame physical and probably emotional obstacles!

You are correct, being a role model requires passion and determination.

I have many role models in my life. First of all, Mr. Yollis is a role model. He is kind and patient with all people and is fair when dealing with others. Mrs. Morris is a role model for me too. She puts forth tremendous effort when teaching young children. Not only does she work teaching kids, but she also takes her own time to help teachers learn as well. Your mom, Alma, is a role model for parents all over the world. She supports student bloggers and encourages them via her comments. Finally, YOU are a role model. The quality posts and sincere comments you provide for your readers is remarkable. I use you all the time as an example of what a first-class blogger looks like.

Thank you for a wonderful post!

Mum said that was so nice you to say that mum is a role model to you. You are my role model too Mrs Yollis.

The compliments you said about me made my day and the compliments you said about mum also made her day.

    Dear BB,

This was certainly a very popular post. I am sure this girl is an inspiration to many people. I certainly will never forget this movie and the courage this girl displayed. It was moving to watch her get back to doing what she loved after the accident. In fact, I had a hard time going into the ocean after watching this film last summer. Do you know how to surf? Do you like to swim in the ocean?

Thank you for sharing and I look forward to reading more from you.

I did not get frightened after the movie nor did I not want to go in the ocean. My friend knows how to surf but I don’t.
